Water supply is the first question we ask on a Fircrest job. The City of Fircrest runs its own water system from city wells, with an emergency intertie to Tacoma Water. It is one of the few small cities in the area with its own groundwater supply. From our shop in Port Orchard, Fircrest is about 35 minutes from Port Orchard, over the Narrows Bridge and a few minutes down Highway 16 to the Orchard Street exit; we schedule it alongside nearby stops so windows stay tight.
Why garbage disposal repair & installation is a little different in Fircrest
Kitchens in Fircrest that have an RO system or a water filter under the sink are tight on space, and we size the replacement disposal so everything still fits and the filter can be serviced.
Sewer versus septic is the next question. City sewer. Fircrest collects wastewater and pumps it to the City of Tacoma's system for treatment. There is no septic in Fircrest.
Local conditions that affect garbage disposal repair & installation in Fircrest
In Fircrest specifically, one issue comes up more than most: Clay side sewers with roots from the big street trees on Regents and Alameda
Many Fircrest homes are on septic, and a disposal adds ground food solids to a tank that may not have been sized for it. We explain what that means for your pumping schedule and the habits that keep a disposal from shortening the life of a drain field.
Ask a Fircrest homeowner what goes wrong with plumbing here and you will usually hear a version of this: Pressure reducing valves failing on the city's well-fed system
Newer Fircrest homes typically have builder-grade disposals that fail around the ten-year mark, often with a leak from the bottom. A mid-range stainless-chamber replacement outlasts them several times over and runs quieter.

Garbage Disposal Repair & Installation questions from Fircrest
Does a disposal replacement in Fircrest require an electrician?
Not if there is already a switched outlet or wiring under the sink. If the kitchen has no disposal wiring, an electrician adds it and we install the unit afterward.
What does disposal repair cost in Fircrest?
Clearing a jam or resealing a flange is a modest service call. A replacement is quoted as one flat price with the unit and connections included, approved on your phone before we start.
How quickly can you fix a disposal in Fircrest?
Most Fircrest disposal calls are same-day or next-day with a four-hour arrival window. If the unit is leaking into the cabinet, let Corinne know and we will move it up.
Do you carry replacement disposals for Fircrest jobs?
Yes. We stock InSinkErator units in the common sizes on the truck, so a replacement is usually done on the first visit.
Is it worth repairing a disposal or should I replace it?
Jams, flange leaks and loose connections are worth repairing on any unit. A dead motor, a cracked housing or a leak from the bottom on a unit more than ten years old means replacement, and a new mid-range unit costs less than people expect.
Fircrest homeowners often find us after a larger outfit quoted a replacement for something that only needed a repair. We would rather earn a customer for life than win one big ticket.
